In this guide, we will cover moving your existing Wordpress website to SkySilk from its current host
Please note: This guide assumes that you already have a working installation of Wordpress. If you have not already set up a default site, please visit this guide before continuing here: https://help.skysilk.com/support/solutions/articles/9000173246-how-to-install-wordpress-with-lamp-on-ubuntu
To begin with, we are going to use FTP to transfer our files from the existing host to our local disk. We will be using WinSCP in this example.
We only absolutely need the wp-content and wp-config.php file/folder. If your site is highly complex and needs to retain other files such as the .htaccess file then be sure to bring those with!
Next, log in to your existing host's phpMyAdmin and select your Wordpress database.
On that page, use the checkbox for Check All and pick Export from the dropdown beside it.
Select Quick and press Go. This will download a .sql file onto your local disk.
Now that we have all of our required files from the existing host, we can move them over to our SkySilk VPS. Use the same method from above to upload the files from our local disk to the new VPS.
Now we're going to log into phpMyAdmin on our SkySilk VPS and select our dummy database. When that page loads, use the 'Check all' checkbox and then select Drop from the dropdown.
Do you really want to execute the following query? -- Press 'Yes'.
Move over to the Import tab,
Press 'Choose File' and select the .sql file we downloaded from the previous host, then press 'Go'.
You should see a notification that looks similar to this:
Be sure to make any required updates such as your site URLs or any hardcoded references.
You have successfully migrated your Wordpress content and database from the previous host to your new SkySilk VPS.
