What is the difference between snapshots and backups

Are there any functionality differences between backups and snapshots? Can I use a backup to restore only a part of my filesystem (file or folder)?
  • Backups are for the entire server state, snapshots are specific to the file system and rely on a hierarchy. You can use a snapshot to restore only a part of your filesystem as opposed to an entire server backup.

  • You cannot use snapshots to restore a single file or folders, they are intended to be used as a type of reversion control for the entire file system.
